KESC inaugurates Korangi South Grid Station
Karachi, 18 February 2009: Karachi Electric Supply Company has announced 2009 as the Energy Conservation year for Karachi, in partnership with City District Government Karachi. A joint announcement was made by Syed Mustafa Kamal, City Nazim Karachi and Naveed Ismail, CEO KESC at the inaugural ceremony of Korangi South Grid Station.
Naveed Ismail, CEO KESC, announcing 2009 as the Energy Conservation year for at this occasion said, "This is the best time for KESC to seek support from citizens of Karachi. From our performance record of the past five months, we have proven our commitment to the city and the company and we will continue to do so. Energy Conservation is the best solution to meet the escalating needs of our future. We are aiming at conserving 200 Mw for Karachi in the next 2 years. We will need every citizen of Karachi to join hands with us in this cause"
At this occasion, Mayor Mustafa Kamal also assured KESC of full support and asked industrial, commercial and residential consumers of electricity to join hands with CDGK and KESC in order to achieve this goal. The event was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life in Karachi. Industrialists, media, business community and citizens assuring KESC and CDGK of their full support
The Korangi South Grid is one of eight (8) Grid Station projects being worked on by KESC, and the first one to come online. The Company plans to bring three (3) more such grids online by March, in line with its commitment to modernizing its transmission network, strengthening the power grid of Karachi and ensuring uniform power supply. This grid will cover all residential consumers of Korangi and some parts of Landhi with improved voltage profile.
The enhanced transformation capacity will serve (80MVA) pending industrial/residential load. This grid will also improve system reliability in the area and prevent outages. The areas that will directly benefit from this grid are Korangi sectors: 50B, 50A, 51A, 51B, 51D, 41A, 48B, 48H, Juma Goth, Ali Akbar Shah Goth, Korangi G Market, Korangi D area, G area, 100 Qtrs, D area Qtrs, Korangi 2 1/2 area, 3 1/2 area.
Karachi, 25 MARCH 2009: KESC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ABB Pakistan for furthering the newly launched energy conservation drive by the privatized power utility. In the first stage, they will target industrial and bulk electricity consumers for raising awareness among them about the importance of saving electricity as a major national cause. ABB Pakistan by signing the MOU with KESC will provide technical assistance to utility for creating awareness, means, resources and products among power consumers in the city, especially in industrial sector, for conserving electricity.
Karachi, 24 APRIL 2009: Philips and KESC have joined hands by signing MoU on energy conservation programme. This is very important, especially, at this time when there is a disparity between demand and supply of electricity. Together KESC and Philips will be working to improve energy awareness amongst, both, domestic and industrial consumers in order to increase the use of energy efficient lighting and replace energy inefficient lighting.
